Project Description

October 2010 – January 2013

Replacement of Four SCADA Systems Controlling the Entire UK Gas Distribution

Organisation Function TRANSCO had sold four distribution networks in 2005. Under Systems Operator Managed Services Agreement (SOMSA), National Grid still provided management and operation on behalf of the Independent Distribution Network (IDN) Operators, including the Client’s networks. The arrangement is temporary in nature and the IDNs expected to break away from the SOMSA agreement (SOMSA Exit), at a suitable time and then manage their own networks using independently owned IT systems and infrastructure.
Project The IDNs will have complete control over cost accrued, cost projected including the cost profile on various options with a view of selection of appropriate option, mitigation of overspend and confidence of re-projection to the management.
The system is Critical to the UK National Infrastructure and such we fully comply with the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure.
How we help Implementation (Cutover) Management – Accountable for the performance of the on-site Analysts who were assisting with the Cutover from the legacy Gas Transport Management System to the new Gas Distribution Network Control System.
This role involved working with a System Integrator to plan and execute a staggered Cutover across the four gas companies at four separate geographic locations.
We developed resource Cutover plan, worked in collaboration with gas companies on their specific Cutover plans, established implementation plan scope of works, technical dress rehearsal,  establish infrastructure support requirements, Refinement of Project Plan, Collaboration with gas companies on IT communications infrastructure requirements, Management of UAT and OAT (Remote & On-site), management of Cutover support and stability period, end to end visibility of data migration strategy (i.e. Historical and Operational data).
Test and Defect Management – Single point of contact for System Integrator’s testing across all environments. Attended daily defect reviews with external stakeholders and accepted or challenged defects. Ensured test scripts and defects were assigned to and completed by the analysts.
